▪︎ Partnership: We Organized Childhood Cancer Education for students in two Schools within Adenta Municipality. Raised awareness as part of the activity.
▪︎ More Details: Childhood Cancer is said to be one of the silent killers in Africa. As silent as it is, some African parents turn to spiritualise the symptoms thus preventing them from seeking medical attention for their kids. Some also see it as malaria and administer malaria treatment. After the education, these children expressed their understanding of the topic by answering several questions. What was unique, outstanding or innovative about this service project is winning a pin from a reputable club as Lions Club is the joy of every child. An event they will not forget and a price to cherish forever. A short quiz on the topic with an acronym (SILUAN) was conducted and the enthusiasm with which they answered questions in return was heart warming. The quiz won some of them lions pins as awards from the Lions club. This service project important to our community because identifying the symptoms early and seeking for medical help to prevent untimely death of children is very important. After the activity, a father of a child called to thank me for the knowledge we impacted on his child. As the child also educated his family about the disease.

The aim was to join forces and provide social benefit. With this regard; With the assistance of the Neuilly-Sur-Seine Rotary Club, hospital furniture stocked as surplus in the warehouses of French university hospitals were graciously donated as a conditional grant to be used in Turkey. The 18 mobile patient beds, 2 donor chairs, 2 gynecological examination tables, 1 operating table, 10 wheelchairs, various nightstands and bedside tables were brought to Istanbul by voluntary sponsors and the Istanbul Silivri Rotary Club. While some of these materials were taken into use by the state hospital of Silivri, 18 beds were delivered to Istanbul residents in need with the support of Rıhtım Karaköy Lions Club. It was sent as a free grant, knowing that people in need do not have the financial power to buy beds with medical features when receiving their treatments at home. This service project important to our community because throughout the history of humanity and Turkish Community, we have always fought the biggest war against hunger. There is a belief in Turkish traditions that "you can not sleep well when your neighbor is hungry". We too follow in the footsteps of our ancestors. As Turkish Leo and Rotaract youth, we aimed to remind once again this tradition, which we sometimes ignore due to daily problems in the hustle and bustle of life, and to prevent hunger.

▪︎ More Details: Turkish Leos and Turkish Rotaractors are working together! Due to the decreasing number of projects with the pandemic in the 2019-2020 working period, Izmir Agora Leo Club and Istanbul Maslak Rotaract Club launched an online education series. This cooperation expanded in a short time by incorporating other Leo and Rotaract Clubs across Turkey. During the pandemic, seminars were held on various subjects and fields through online platforms, and both Leo and Rotaracts got to know each other and started to work in cooperation. While the cooperation has been started its physical activities since the 2021-2022 working period, the opening of the 2022-2023 working period was made with the European Mobility Week on 16-22 September. In this context, to increase mobility, challenges were published on LnR's Instagram account (@lnroes) throughout the week; trying to encourage it in a fun way. In addition, on September 17, Leo and Rotaracts all over Turkey organized a simultaneous nature walk in their own cities. Thus, an event was organized by gathering together during the mobility week and environmental cleaning was also carried out during the walk on this date, which is the World Cleanup Day. With this platform; the spirit of unity and solidarity, which its importance was emphasized by our International presidents at the beginning of the term, is growing day by day. With creative trainings, we provided visitors with hand skills and new production techniques. What was unique, outstanding or innovative about this service project is that our two projects that stood out at the fair are. 1- Providing children with Down Syndrome with equal education and job opportunities under equal conditions. 2- Bringing "Olive Olive Waste Water", which is released to the nature as waste without being evaluated, into the economy. It was realized how talented and talented children with Down Syndrome are. Again in this activity, raw cloth bags prepared by the Aegean Forest Foundation were dyed with vegetable fabric dyes. Again, awareness was created that we should protect our environment from nylon and plastic waste. Our second work was the project of bringing the waste water under olives into production. It is a first for our country that this water is brought into the economy as a spice by working with a young woman entrepreneur. This award-winning work was explained to the visitors and tasted. This service project important to our community because 1.2 million people visited the fair in 9 days. This has been very important for the promotion of our projects and services, for the promotion of Lions. The activity with children with Down Syndrome attracted the attention of the visitors and was appreciated. A visitor's statement "You are the invisible angels of society" touched us all.

We aimed to pave a safe way for the baby carrettas to reach the sea. Unfortunately the beach was littered by the passing by ships, boats an well as people. We also received help from an environmentalist association called SPOT who mainly deals with carrettas. The district municipality immediately removed all the bags of litter, so that we left nothing behind. What was unique, outstanding or innovative about this service project is that we were aware that we were doing a great job by helping the carrettas hatch and reach the sea safely as their number is decreasing each day. We were also happy to see non-native friends trying to help us in our efforts of preservation of clean nature who came from far way countries. ▪︎ More Details: Every year, a national campaign "Let's clean Bulgaria together" is organized in Bulgaria. This year we decided to do something different. In our city of Pleven, we have an amazing park "Kailaka", located in a wonderfully beautiful stone valley, along both banks of a sparkling river. A few years ago, playgrounds were built in the pedestrian area of the park. Over time, under the influence of weather conditions and depreciation, they needed renovation. Together with the Rotary Club and Olimpian Leo Club, we repaired and painted the swings and benches. What was unique, outstanding or innovative about this service project is that with this project, we were able to unite several organizations and people from the city, to work together for more smiling children's faces. The youth from the Olimpian Leo Club accepted the tasks responsibly and enthusiastically painted not only the benches and swings, but also themselves. Finally they had paint on their faces, hair and clothes. This created even more of a mood and they left satisfied and happy. This service project important to our community because by renovating the playgrounds, we have provided the children of the city of Pleven with safer play, so that they can peacefully enjoy pleasant moments with friends. And we all remained satisfied with the work done, the new friends with whom we worked and had fun. We are convinced that every good thing attracts like-minded people. Until we were working we told people about Lions and what we do and now there are people who want to join us.
▪︎ LCI: This service project elevated the Lions brand since during the project, many people found out about Lions, about the fact that it is the largest humanitarian organization in the world. ▪︎ From: D130, Stara Zagora City, Bulgaria.
▪︎ Partnership: Two local Lions clubs - Stara Zagora Augusta and Stara Zagora invited Beroe Rotary Club to join together the national-wide campaign of bTV "Let's clean Bulgaria" on September 17th. We agreed on the location - a local park around a famous monument "Defenders of Stara Zagora" and set up a Facebook event and MyLion event and invited our members, Beroe Rotary Club, Stara Zagora Augusta Leo Club, Stara Zagora Zonta Club and other volunteers to join. Lions collected garbage in the area around the monument - plastic bottles, metal cans, used packages; we cleaned the area, painted benches and enjoyed community joint service. Beroe Rotary Club accepted our invitation and joined in the cleaning action with volunteers. Our Rotarian friends shared publications with photos on social media too and suggested other common projects to be performed in the future.
▪︎ More Details: "Let's clean Bulgaria" is a project, started 10 years ago by a local TV channel (bTV). Our Lions club is joining traditionally in the last few years and we participated even in the pandemic years. In the first years just few NGOs and volunteers were joining, while now many young people, companies, volunteers are engaged to make our environment and living space more clean and beautiful. What was unique, outstanding or innovative about this service project is that since the spring of 2020 Lions and Leos from Stara Zagora Augusta decided to clean regularly our beautiful green area around the Monument "Defenders of Stara Zagora", as during the pandemic restrictions many people walked and spent more time in the park, but disregarded keeping it clean. While we were not able to meet as usual, our club's meetings were in the open air in that park near the monument, which is one of the symbols of Stara Zagora. We wanted to take care and keep it beautiful and clean. Together with a local kindergarten we placed wooden signs with directions to avoid poluting the green areas, with Leos we have painted benches and cut old bushes and dried up vegetation, in partnership with our Municipality the trash was collected and delivered to the landfill. So, this year, motivated by #CelebrateCommunity appeal we joined forces with Beroe Rotary Club, Stara Zagora Lions Club, Stara Zagora Zonta Club, Tourist Association "Surnena Gora", our amazing Stara Zagora Augusta Leo Club and achieved so much together! This service project important to our community because serving together and uniting for a good cause and important local need we give a great example to our community, children and some passive fellows. It is really vital to engage more volunteers to serve in favour of the community, as this is the way to increase our impact and gain trust and visibility for Lions, Leos and all partnering organizations. All participants were excited and we planned our next joint projects for making our city more beautiful and nice place for living.
▪︎ LCI: This service project elevated the Lions brand since we re-confirmed our leading role in the community as one of the most active NGOs and voluntary organizations as we always present proudly our Lions & Leo vests, logos and signs. Lions is well recognized and our service is the key to become even more visible. From the LCI resources we used community assessment form and the service project planner. We planned the project in MyLion and invited members in MyLion before it started. Also reported the project in MyLion after it's finished.
▪︎ From: D130, Svilengrad City, Bulgaria.
▪︎ Partnership: The event was held for the first time on a such big scale. The main driver and organizer is the Svilena Svilengrad Lions Club. The president of the club contacted representatives of Svilengrad Rotary Club who enthusiastically accepted their participation in the joint initiative "Celebrate Community". With their activities, the members of the Svilena Svilengrad Lions Club managed to attract representatives of the Alpha Leo Club. Together, all of us, successfully completed this environmental protection mission. The members of the Svilengrad Rotary Club participate in the practical part of the event. They cleaned the heavy and the biggest waste which were situated in the area. With their help the big bags with the garbage were loaded in the loans.
▪︎ More Details: The project aims to clean up the bed of the Maritsa river, which is situated within the urbanized territory of the town of Svilengrad, Republic of Bulgaria, as a part of the national campaign "Let's Clean Bulgaria Together". It was implemented in partnership with the Svilena Svilengrad Alpha Leo Club and the Svilengrad Rotary Club, and with the support of of Svilengrad Municipality. The Svilengrad municipality provided sacks and gloves for the volunteers in the campaign. Irresponsible dumping of waste in the area had turned the area into an unsightly place. Before the start of the cleaning activities, the river bed was turned into a bed of waste of all kinds - plastic, iron, papers, nylon. The municipal structure responsible for the waste in the town transported the collected waste to the landfill. The implementation of the project contributed to the protection of the environment by cleaning the area of waste. For this cleaning of this territory, such a computer operation was organized for the first time. With concern for the environment, people's well-being and preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of the region, socially responsible organizations with voluntary work made efforts and joined the millions of volunteers around the world for the World Environment Day. Over 600 kg of plastic products, construction materials, tires and other plant waste are collected in biodegradable bags and handed over for processing. What was unique, outstanding or innovative about this service project is that united under the title "Clean environment for us and our children", Svilena Lions Club and Svilengrad Rotary Club united the community in this important cause. Guided by the good example, families and children, 50 volunteers from Lions Club, Rotary Club and Svilena Svilengrad Alpha Leo Club are involved in cleaning the territory in the Maritsa River bed in the part passing through the city. The Maritsa River is the largest full-water river in southern Bulgaria, passing through the urban territory of Svilengrad. Pedestrian access to cross the river is via a built bridge, which is a cultural monument of national importance, built more than 500 years ago, with a length of 295 m and a width of 6 m. , which is annually visited by thousands of tourists. Along its course in the months of high water, the river carries with it various waste - logs, plastic waste, etc., which under the pressure of the water narrows the width of the bed and creates prerequisites for natural disasters and floods. This service project important to our community because this eco event - the cleaning of the mentioned territory, was organized for the first time in our community. With concern for the environment, people's well-being and preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of the region, socially responsible organizations with voluntary work made efforts and joined the millions of volunteers around the world for the World Environment Day. Over 600 kg of plastic products, construction materials, tires and other plant waste are collected in biodegradable bags and handed over for processing for second use.
▪︎ LCI: This service project elevated the Lions brand since Svilena Svilengrad Lions Club uses every service project to promote the Lions movement. It distinguished all of the participants in the event. It was featured on social (Facebook) and media channels as well as on the MyLion platform. From the LCI resources we used the Service Project Planner. It was used to plan the event by identifying partners, organizing the event step by step, determining the budget, which helped to implement the project. We reported the project in MyLion after it's finished.
▪︎ From: D325C, Dharan City, Nepal.
▪︎ Partnership: This project was led by Lions and we made necessary arrangement at the venue and convinced people to donate blood. All organizations worked together to convince people to donate blood.
▪︎ More Details: "Be the reason for someone’s heartbeat". We, Dharan Ghopa United Lions Club, organized "Mega Blood Donation Program" at Bhatbhateni Supermarket, Biratnagar, Nepal under our project "Dirghajiwi: Lives Life, Gives Life" together with Dharan Ghopa Health Professionals Lions Club, Biratnagar Health Ambassadors Club Branch, Health Ambassadors United Leo Club, Dharan Ghopa Leo Club, Biratnagar Kiwanis Club, Biratnagar Optimist Club, Dharan Ghopa Rotaract Club and Terapanth Yuvak Parishad (TYP), Biratnagar. It involved Lions, Leo, Kiwanis, Optimist, TYP and Rotaract clubs as a part of #celebratecommunity with a great assistance from Nepal Red Cross Society, Dharan. This donation drive was organized when Nepal was facing a national blood crisis – the worst blood shortage in over a decade, posing a concerning risk to patient care. Amid this crisis, Doctors were forced to make difficult decisions about who receives blood transfusions and who will need to wait until more products become available. Hospitals were still seeing accident victims, cancer patients, those with blood disorders like sickle cell disease, and individuals who were seriously ill who all needed blood transfusions to live. Blood and blood products were critically needed to help prevent further delays in vital medical treatments. The Red Cross experienced decline in the number of people donating blood since the beginning of the COVID - 19 pandemic and continue to confront relentless issues due to the pandemic, including ongoing blood drive cancellations and donor limitations. At this moment, our "Blood Donation Drive" made people realize the crisis and motivated them to donate blood for the needy. People felt that there is nothing greater you can give someone than the gift of life. It increased blood donations to ensure all needy patients can receive medical treatments immediately without any delay. Since then, the number of instant and camp donors have been multiplied to a great extent. Yes, to have people donating lifesaving blood is really incredible and essential. Together, Lions good goes further because we care, we serve and we accomplish!! What was unique, outstanding or innovative about this service project is that this humanitarian initiative connected all the global giant social service organizations - Lions/Leo, Rotary/Rotaract, Kiwanis, Optimists as well as Terapanth Yuvak Parishad, for the first time round the globe. It helped us gather instant blood in huge quantity as well as motivate people such that uexpectedly, people started going to Red Cross Office, giving our reference and expressing their willingness to donate blood. It helped to raise awareness improving the quality of lives of needy and saving a number of lives, hence bringing a positive impact in our community. We received hundreds of membership queries following the event. It also helped to spread a positive message among the public about how Leo and Lions clubs across the globe are actively working to decrease the global burden of problems and sufferings, thus elevating the Lions brand. This project proved to be an image building project for Lions Club International increasing our public visibility.. This service project important to our community because the gift of blood donation is a selfless act that gives hope to those in real need who are struggling with death. The donated blood has a great impact in the lives of need. The need for blood products is always great to meet the demand for patients with cancer and other diseases, surgical support and accident/trauma victims. The summer months and winter holiday season put additional stress on blood suppliers because of decreased donations. Also, in the past year, the shortage has widened as we’ve seen a decrease in the number of donors due to COVID pandemic. As a result, the Blood Centers and government have had to issue multiple critical appeals for blood but all in vain. Our purposeful, dedicated initiative of mega blood donation drive awakened the community people to realize their social and moral responsibilities as there is no substitute for human blood products and voluntary donation fosters a feeling of doing something generous for others; it’s the ultimate “pay it forward.” Yes, our community is depending upon us and it is important provide the right blood to the right patient at the right time for the right reason.
▪︎ LCI: This service project elevate the Lions brand since this humanitarian initiative led by Lions actually connected all the global giant social service organizations - Lions/Leo, Rotary/Rotaract, Kiwanis, Optimists as well as Terapanth Yuvak Parishad, for the the first time round the globe. It thus helped to spread a positive message among the public about how Leo and Lions clubs across the globe are actively working to decrease the global burden of problems and sufferings, thus elevating the Lions brand. This project proved to be an image building project for Lions Club International increasing our public visibility. We planned the project in MyLion before it started and invited members to the project in MyLion before it started. We reported the project in MyLion after it's finished.
▪︎ From: D20-K1, New York City, USA.
▪︎ Partnership: Brooklyn First Responders Lions and Leo club members partnered with La Guardia Kiwanis Club as they hosted their annual Kids Day! This annual event was to educate and inspire youth in the aviation. Our Lions served in various capacities, for example, Lion Brian Worthington flew the NYPD Helicopter to LaGuardia airport and spend about 6 hours chatting with hundreds of attendees regarding his job as a pilot, NYPD officer and what it means to be a First Responder. Lion Brian is a Board member of First Responders Lions Club. He’s also a retired military officer and the President of Black Pilots of America. Additionally, 12 year old Leo Brandon Willabus, Vice President of First Responders Leo Club served for 6 hours as a volunteer who overlooked one of the US Air-force Auxiliary - Civil Air Patrol aircraft. Leo Brandon was called a HERO at the end of the day since a child who went inside of the plane pressed the engine light on. Leo Brandon observed and sprung into action and alerted the licensed pilot. Leo Brandon is a young aviator. He completed the ground course to become a pilot. He currently has experience flying in various aircraft like the Cessna and Piper. Leo Brandon enjoyed speaking with hundreds of parents and children regarding his experience as a young aviator and future pilot. Lion Brian and Leo Brandon served with merit and made us proud as they both continue to share their passion for aviation and community! The LaGuardia’s Kiwanis Club was the host of the LaGuardia Kids Day event.
▪︎ More Details: What was unique, outstanding or innovative about this service project is that there are not a lot of events or activities that promotes aviation to the youth. There are currently a lack of pilots especially Pilots of color since they don’t know the necessary information to start a career. Additionally, they don’t have access or resources to pursue their ambitions. By seeing Lion Brian Worthington and Leo Brandon who are great examples in aviation inspired a lot of children. Both Lion and Leo shared information on how the pathway to become a pilot to the hundreds of attendees. This service project important to our community because there are not a lot of positive role models for our youth. Leo Brandon Willabus, at the young age of 12 inspired so many. These are the traits of which not only parents look for but other children as they focus on future interests. Many communities lack opportunities for children to be inspired beyond the norm. There are the usual routine events like a block party, backpack giveaway, etc but not meaningful life changing events like this service project. Having the opportunity to walk into the cockpit and hold the yoke or press on the rudder pedals is not an everyday occurrence. Most of us upon traveling on a plane, we rush to board and while curious, never get a chance to meet a pilot or explore the brain of the plane!
▪︎ LCI: This service project elevate the Lions brand since during the project, many people found out about Lions, about the fact that it is the largest humanitarian organization in the world. They understood the priorities of the organization and showed a desire to get involved in other initiatives. We build trust with our actions. We reported the project in MyLion after it's finished.

▪︎ More Details: I am a Bangladeshi, I think I work with Lionism. Lions' job is to serve, I prioritize service first then business and family. What was unique, outstanding or innovative about this service project is that AS THE WORLD fights to figure everything out, I'll be holding doors for strangers, letting people cut in front of me in traffic, saying good morning, keeping babies entertained in grocery lines, stopping to talk to someone who is lonely, tipping generously, waving at police, sharing food, giving children a thumbs-up, being patient with sales clerks, smiling at a passersby, and buying a stranger a cup of coffee. Why? Because I will not stand to live in a world where love is invisible. Show kindness and understanding, and judge less. Be kind to a stranger, give grace to friends who are having a bad day, be forgiving with yourself. If you can't find kindness, be kindness. This service project important to our community because forgive yourself. Forgive yourself for being somebody that you couldn't be for yourself but you were for others. You are more than enough. You matter. Forgive yourself for giving the love and acceptance you gave to others but nobody bothered to show you. You are loved. You are worthy. Forgive yourself for all of the moments you were being too hard on your being. You are doing an amazing job. What you do is beautiful. Forgive yourself for giving so much of your time and energy to people who only are there to drain it. You are pure strength. Forgive yourself. Remind yourself that you have the power within you to try again and to be proud of the progress you're making.
